About the Artists

   Sharon Rhinesmith and Tom Smith met at Temple University as music students, where they often performed together. Since reuniting in 2004, the  duo has shared their musical talents in a variety of settings including:   Neumann College in Aston PA, the PEAK Center for the Performing Arts in Lansdale, PA,  the noontime recital series at the Church of the Holy Trinity on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, Concerts By Candlelight at the Chalfonte Hotel in Cape May, NJ and the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, where they performed the world premiere of David Hahn’s Ostraka. Upcoming engagements include an appearance with the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society.

   Tom holds a B.M. degree from Temple University's Esther Boyer College of  Music where he studied with Peter Segal.  As a member of the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Trio he has performed in Puerto Rico and Panama and has toured the Mid-Atlantic states as a roster artist for the Pennsylvania Performing Arts On Tour program.

He is a two time awardee of the Community Education Center's Performance In An Intimate Space series where he composed and premiered “Sonata for Guitar & Metal Shop” for guitar and found percussion and “The Wolf Roams” for three guitars. In September, 2002, his composition “River Rising” was premiered by the Pedrick-Hutson guitar duo at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. The duo has since recorded the piece for their critically acclaimed CD “Environs.” Spring of 2005 saw the The Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society Orchestra premiere his composition “Three Temperings” at its annual guitar festival in Philadelphia.

   Sharon is a frequent performer of oratorio, opera and recital.  Her solo appearances include performances with The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Philadelphia Singers, The Music Group of Philadelphia, The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, The Princeton Pro Musica, The Bach Aria Festival of New York and the Lake George (New York) Opera Festival, among many others.

   Sharon received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Voice Performance from Temple University in Philadelphia. She has served on the music faculty at Settlement Music School in Philadelphia and Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, PA. Currently she teaches voice at Cedar Crest College in Allentown.
